January 2014 Meeting Announcement

Games Organization Development People Play:

Using activities & simulations to turn serious problems into playful activities

Presenter: Mike Cardus

Thursday, January 9th from 8:30 am to 11:30 am (8:30 am to 9:00 am – networking; 9:00 am to 11:30 am – meeting)

Canisius Center for Professional Development 300 Corporate Parkway, Suite 130, Amherst, NY 14226

Meeting Overview:

Organization development requires departments, teams and people to work together to define goals and what the solutions will look like once the goals are achieved. This requires effort from the people involved and you as the facilitator. This effort does not have to be you telling them what to do or them telling you what is wrong. The effort is finding exceptions to problems and determining how the team and person cooperate best – quickly finding what works and doing more of it.

Using activities is an interactive and engaging way to make things happen.

Using activities creates:

  • shared experience and language
  • metaphor for development
  • small signs of progress, that the team achieved themselves
  • successes and examples of ‘what works’
  • models for organization development
  • greater personal ownership of the work and what it takes to achieve goals

What will this session look like?

  • The sharing of activities that can be used within your organization and teams.
  • An overview of sequencing activities to enhance your meetings, development, and efforts. Sequencing: the purposeful ordering of group activities based on the group’s needs, goals and setting.
  • Discussions with peers about how these activities can be used in your work.

Who is it for?

  • Anyone who needs and works with other people to achieve goals and sustainability of change.

What are the outcomes?

  • 3 to 5 activities you can use immediately in your meetings and add emphasis to development programs and can be used with teams
  • Knowledge of how to add activities to your existing content
  • Steps to transfer the learning and content from an activity to areas of focus within the organization, team and people
  • Content packet with 10+ OD activities, complete with ‘how to’ guidelines and steps to process the learning and connect it to work
  • Fun and interaction
